When Opening Day is a POW Day!
Big White had to delay opening for a week and wow did they deliver! Fall is the worst time of the year for skiers. Seriously, we watch the weather network obsessively, we discuss Farmers Almanac predictions, we study weather models and we attempt to crash the Big White website by logging into see the webcams every hour. But you never really know what it is going to be like until the lifts actually start spinning.
Education is important but skiing is importanter
Now that the kids are getting older, it is getting more challenging for the Dad's to sneak off for a pow day! They see the signs and want in on the action. And hey, we are here for it. There is nothing more rewarding as a ski-dad that watching the young ones come up behind you with the same amount of stoke for the lifestyle you love so much. Other than the odd, "I am hungry" or "when can we get a burger?!"sharing a pow day is such a treat with all the groms.
Yes, it was a legit pow day...
We often get asked if our photos actually represent the conditions. We will get comments like, "but was it really that deep?" and "you guys sure now how to make it look good". Well let me tell you, Opening Day was a legit creamy, dreamy pow day!. There was easily 15cms of boot penetration. That fluff was blowing up and skiing amazingly. Honestly, to get a juicy pow day for opening is such a gift... and we are spoiled!
These shots were taking on the sides of the runs and we were hitting sneaky little pow stashes all the way until lunch. With more snow in the forecast for the next seven days so the stoke will be rising as much as the measurement stick on the pow cam!
Look before you leap!
Although the Okanagan Champagne Powder is skiing well, it still is early season. Get your buddies to scope your landings and avoid those bum drops! It is also a REALLY good idea to pay attention to those little red Closed signs. The incredible patrol crew is working hard to get the rest of the hill open in good time. Make their job easy and avoid a free ride in a patrol sled!
Have an Awesome Season Everyone!
